If children are the future, teachers are the vessel. Teachers inspire, mentor, and, of course, teach our children the lessons they need to know to be functional social beings. Over the years, especially in Detroit, loss of wages, lack of funding, parent apathy, and a general change in public opinion have devastated the teaching population and have caused a sharp decline in our educator base.
Detroit is a city with a multifaceted educator population challenge. News about low wages, school corruption, and difficult school environments have made teaching lose its appeal. Together, a coalition of funders and foundations came together to reinvigorate the talent pool despite these conditions. But after all these years, how do we make potential teachers know we want them and long-standing teachers believe that we really do care?

Saga created a human-centered traditional and digital marketing campaign that focused on the whole teacher. We highlighted their life inside and outside of the classroom because we know that a great educator is usually a multi-faceted, well-rounded person. We profiled 9 local teachers from Pre-K to 12th Grade and created commercials, vlogs, posters and much more to elevate them to hero status. After all, who’s more heroic than the shepherds of our future leaders.
